3.0 allows apps to use push notifications. Push notifications allow apps to push badges and alerts to your iPhone. Here are some of the first apps to take advantage of this feature:
Tap Tap Revenge ($0.99) alerts you when a friend challenges you to a game. It also shows a badge on your home screen showing the unread count of items in the news feed.
TextFree ($5.99, FREE) alerts you when you receive a text message and badges the icon showing how many unread messages you have.
Pollen Push (FREE) send you an alert when the pollen level for the next day exceeds your specified level. (app only for the UK)
AP Mobile (FREE) sends alerts on breaking news.
Star Defense ($5.99) allows you to send a friend a challenge.
Weater Alert ($0.99) displays weather alerts. (very original title, huh?)
Hey Where Are You (FREE) alerts you when someone is requesting your location.
AreMySitesUp (FREE) allows push notification on site checks.
E*TRADE Mobile Pro (FREE) allows notifications for stock and account alerts.
Trapster (FREE) alerts you as you approach police speed traps, red light cameras, and speed cameras.
Feel free to list other apps that support Push Notifications in the comments.
